First Time Kindergarten Parent?

Today’s Kindergarten classroom is not the Kindergarten classroom that you remember.  Along with appropriate play, your child will be doing language arts (letters, rhymes, songs, writing, reading readiness and reading, poetry) math, science, social studies, art, music, some paper pencil work and much more.  Your child will be given the opportunity to make moment to moment decisions all throughout the kindergarten day and must be able to listen to and follow oral directions.  Kindergarten teachers nurture as we teach and we encourage children to think for themselves, which for many is a new skill.  In order for you to better prepare your child for what lies ahead; I have listed some suggested reading materials for the parent s of children entering Kindergarten that has been put together by the Skokie Public Library. Perhaps one of these books will be just what you are looking for. Kindergarten is a wonderful learning experience that children remember forever, help your child get started on the right path.
